| Well, that was a night to beat them all! On May 4th 2004, a veritable bevy of arts industry people crowded into Sydney’s famous Arthouse Hotel for an action packed evening of entertainment, networking and basically a good time. Hosted by merelyplayers, Sydney’s most dynamic creative producer, this night was resounding success.
The feature for the night was a showcase of some of Sydney’s most dynamic talent, led by our indomitable MC (pictured right) for the evening, Judas Falling, Sydney’s most detestable New Zealand escapee and all round rock’n’roll comedian. He has released his own CDs, made numerous appearances on Sydney radio, MMM, Today FM and Nova and appears in Channel 31's sketch comedy show, Dolphin Juice.

Night #2
It was brilliant line-up of energetic and eclectic entertainment. The guests marveled at Vashti Hughes’ strange tale of frustration and desire. Incorporating clever dialogue, sound fx and [very] erotic dance, Vashti left us screaming for more.
This wonderful showcase of talent also brought the delightful Katrina Fox to the stage. A writer and performer originally from London, Ms. Fox presented a fascinating monologue from her yet to be unveiled one-woman show: a story of life as a parent. Sad, humorous and straight to the bone.
Music was also on the program, and to tickle the fancy of the crowd, The Waiter presented his acoustic tantrum fantasies. Fresh from his ‘Top End’ tour, his original sounds and clever lyrics wooed the crowd of actors, models and producers. The applause was electric.
No showcase such as this would be complete without Australia’s ‘Oldest Rapper’! MC Casser [a.k.a. Cass Cumerford] gave his quirky story of retirement blended with some original rap. As when he first presented this great piece as part of merelyplayers’ March 2004 production, ‘Birth Death and Everything Between’, the crowd clapped and cheered. |
As heard on 2SER's 'WORDJAMMIN' program, and as seen on Channel 31's Dolphin Juice sketch comedy program, DARKSIDE was another of merelyplayers’ guest artists. DarkSide is an unconventional stand-up who pulls no punches... actor, singer, song-writer and dubious poet; he challenged the audience to cheer, cry and chuck stuff. No-one was hurt in the fray… unfortunately.
Matthew Krist, an actor, director and writer fresh from Canada, gave his all to the crowd’s delight in his commedia d'elle arte presentation: arlechinno battoccio. This physical performance, the original slapstick comedy was hilarious, energetic and a great way to finish a huge night of entertainment!
Mingling throughout the crowd, and delighting everyone with her balloon sculpture, the delightful and cheery face of Rosemary was a welcome sight during the entire evening. Wonderful creations were given away as gifts to our guests.
It was a successful evening. Fun was had by all, contacts were made and friendships rekindled. Pitches were made and creative projects launched. A wonderful evening was had by all. |
